TEENGE GIRLS VULNERABLE TO SEX CRIMES

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Teenage girls are most vulnerable to sexual
harassment with statistics from a survey conducted by the Women''s Centre for
Change (WCC) showing that it is at an alarming stage,
WCC programme director, Dr D Prema said the survey was carried out between
January and August this year at 11 schools in the Timur Laut and Seberang Perai
Selatan districts, involving 100 female students, aged between 15 and 17 years,
who claimed they were exposed to sex crimes.
"They received sex threat through telephone calls, short messaging service
(SMS), multimedia messaging service (MMS)and social websites, normally from
their male friends and unknown men, besides their lover," she told a media
conference today.
She hoped that the outcome of the survey conducted by WCC would provide
guidelines for the government in finding ways to address the problem.
